10/28/2009 - CREECH AFB Nev. -- The Secretary of the Air Force and Chief of Staff of the Air Force recently announced the continuation of policies limiting the reassignment of Airmen who are in direct support of the Remotely Piloted Vehicle mission.
The Honorable Michael B. Donley, and General Norton A. Schwartz, issued a memorandum for all MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper Airmen discussing the reassignment limitations. Airmen in the 11U, 12U, 14N, 1N1, 1AX, and 1N0 Air Force Specialty Codes will be limited on reassignments through Fiscal Year 2011. However, RPV Airmen can apply for reassignment opportunities within the RPV community or other related assignments.
The memorandum acknowledged that Predator and Reaper Combat Air Patrols have continuously increased over time.
From June 2008, Predator and Reaper CAPs have grown from 21 to 36. The number of CAPs is expected to grow to 50 by 2011.
The memorandum also stated that "We cannot overstate how important you and the unmanned aircraft system capabilities are to our Joint and coalition teammates--and to our Nation."
Both Secretary Donley and General Schwartz said the ever-growing demand for the MQ-1's and MQ-9s to support ground troops in theater are a tribute to the level of excellence and dedication of the Airmen in support of the RPV mission.
Wing leadership here also agreed that the demand for Predator and Reaper platforms in theater is a true testament to the value of the Hunter mission.
"Each and every day, Hunter Airmen support the joint warfighter and save the lives of ground troops in theater," said Colonel Pete E. Gersten, 432d Wing and 432d Air Expeditionary Wing commander. "What we bring to the fight is highly valued and we must continue to provide the capabilities of our RPV platforms downrange. I want all Hunters to know that senior leadership understands the concerns with the extension of the reassignment policies and we will continue to work with Air Force leadership to reevaluate the reassignment limitations as needed."
Creech Airmen who have questions or would like more information on the reassignment freeze can call 404-1368 or send an e-mail to 432WG.CCE@nellis.af.mil .
